Avocado
The avocado plant (*Persea americana*) is an evergreen tree from the laurel family (Lauraceae). Originally native to the warm and humid rainforests of Mexico and Central America, it is now cultivated worldwide in tropical and subtropical regions. The trees can reach heights of up to 20 meters and are characterized by a lush, spreading crown and smooth, grey-green bark. The elongated, dark green leaves and the small, green-yellow flowers develop into the coveted avocado fruit after pollination. Botanically speaking, these are berries and vary in shape, size and color depending on the variety.
