Case study: Rebhann winery and fruit farm

09.02.2022

Rebhann winery and fruit farm lies at the foot of the Steigerwald in Oberschwarzach, Germany. The largely organic vineyards span six hectares and include the fungus-resistance grape varieties Johanniter, Muscaris and Souvignier gris, as well as Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Riesling, Kerner, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Sylvaner as well as Domina and Pinot Noir. Jürgen Rebhann’s company is also one of the few in the world to have been granted permission to produce an unfiltered Williams Christ Birnenbrand – a type of pear schnapps. High-quality, healthy fruit are one of the key requirements for the fine fruit schnapps. As with grapes cultivated for wine, this requires constant care and lots of work in the orchards.

Rebhann has been utilising the crop protection technology from VICAR for nine years now. The fact that the radial blower can bundle different airflows is especially useful for the tall pear trees. Since using the powerful turbines, the vintner has experienced significantly fewer fungal infestations on the vines and fruit trees. The threat of infection is generally greatest for the under sides of the leaves, as it is harder for the moisture to evaporate from these areas. The high-power turbine means that each leaf is evenly covered, including on the upper and under sides. The accurate coverage provides the leaf with complete protection against fungal infestation and other afflictions.

Jürgen Rebhann first became aware of the powerful turbines after seeing them featured in an article in a wine magazine. He thought it sounded like an interesting product and wanted to see it in action. And that is how he opted for the high-performance turbines from VICAR. Unlike other similar businesses nearby, which use different types of blowers, Rebhann believes that his crop protection is considerably more accurate and more cost-effective. Besides the technology itself, he values the service and support offered by the family company LTS. The owners, Timo and Peter Sexauer, are not just familiar with the special features of the individual turbines and products, but also the challenges facing businesses growing different types of crops when it comes to crop protection. As a result, they are in a unique position to provide sound, practical advice.

“We feel like we are well-supported with the crop protection technology from VICAR. We have been able to visit LTS’ exhibition stand at the AgarWintertage in Nieder-Olm multiple times over recent years. It has given us the opportunity to discuss our questions with the father and son owners of LTS in detail. We are also really happy with the availability of spare parts. Even during the pandemic, we didn’t experience any delays to deliveries of key replacement parts.”
